Toshiba Storage Device Division announces its new 2.5-inch hard disk drive. It offers an areal density of 477 Mbit/mm² – the world’s highest density to date (July 2008). Due to the new “Silent-Seek” technology featured in the MK4058GSX drive, this 5400 rpm HDD is extremely quiet. In addition, the 400GB drive in a 9.5mm form factor functions at an exceptionally low energy consumption level of 1.0015W/GB and offers an operating shock resistance of 400G.
This new SATA drive offers enough capacity for portable video recording and editing, with lower power consumption. The functionality provides ideal storage for a range notebooks and small form factor PCs, as well as non-PC applications such as MP3 players and GPS systems.
