High Efficiency Thermal Design
R4870X2 uses 2-Slot thermal design, copper heatsink and big-size fan to dissipate heat generated from two GPUs and GDDR5 memory, allows graphics cards operate coolly and quietly.
Self-CrossFire Architecture
R4870X2 has 2 ATI Radeon™ HD 4870 GPUs connected to each other by CrossFire™ port built into the PCB. The additional PLX chip is a 3-Way , 48 lanes PCI Express® Switch, which connects to two GPUs and PCI Express® interface of R4870X2 with PCI Express® x16 bandwidth.
PLX chip allow two GPUs to communicate to each other with high-speed PCI Express® x16 bandwidth, and allows R4870X2 compatible with all motherboards with or without CrossFire™ Support.
